It All Started with a Letter…
Letter we received from Gail Smith, an active volunteer with Pima Animal Care Center:
Hi. My name is Gail Smith and I am a volunteer at Pima Animal Care Center. I am in a group called TopDogs (transforming our PACC Dogs). We identify and train dogs who are considered behavioral problems due to various issues and causes.
Last year I came across Tansy hiding in the back of her kennel, shaking like a leaf. She had just reached the adoption floor, but would not let anyone leash her. I sat in her kennel and talked to her and tossed her treats until she came to me. I was able to leash her and eventually walk her and start training her. We found that she responded well to women, but not to men. Stats show that many of dogs that are abused are abuse by men, more than children or women. Anyway, no matter how much training Tansy received we have not been able to take that fear away. She eventually was adopted by a couple from the Sedona area. She went to the male first, which surprised us! That lasted less than a weekend and she is now back.
She was fostered in a wonderful home, and at first did fine with the male, but eventually would only react positively to the female in the household. This has happened in her Board and Train situation also.
I really think she needs to live with an all female family, who has intermittent male contact, without men living in the home. I feel Tucson’s Lesbian Community would be the best place to start looking for her forever home.
Is there anyone out there that can help? This pup needs a loving home and I am sure there are many women who would love her.
