On the 15th of this month, BODIES…The Exhibition is visiting Tucson for 8 weeks. The displayitself is essentially positioned bodies stripped and dissected. There are over 200 specimens that are displayed for the purpose of educating the general public.
For example, there might be a body throwing a ball, and he looks like he is in the midst of that action, but he is actually dead and missing some skin. The cool part is that you get to see what we look like on the inside.
Now, I hear people rave about this exhibition frequently. Many people think it is interesting or educational, while others are not so fond of seeing dead bodies. I fall into the latter of those categories. Luckily, I will be going to the exhibit this week to scout it out for you! (that was not my super excited voice) Honestly, I am so nervous to go.
I don’t know where the bodies come from- it is not advertised- but I would imagine that they are donated. When I got a drivers license, I decided that I wanted to be an organ donor. I don’t care, I will pass life naturally and someone may benefit from an extra organ.
However, the thought of seeing bodies manipulated in this fashion, comparatively to organ donors in a mortuary setting, is mind-boggling. Selfishly, people do not want to be so close to death, to see the workings of a human’s internal body. At least I don’t.
But the truth of the matter is that life, death, and taxes are the only things we are certain of in this life. Why does it scare us so much? It is hard for me to apply this concept to my life because I don’t like change or uncertainty. One goal of mine is to learn to appreciate all stages of life and death. It really is beautiful in its peaceful existence.
I’m going to check out BODIES…The Exhibition, and I will get back to you about how it was. Make sure to check my blog by the 15th to see how it went and go to the Bodies page to get more information. I almost forgot to mention, Gay Tucson is giving away FREE TICKETS to the exhibition! Seriously, check it out. It is so different from anything I have ever experienced.
