Go to your local hardware store and pick up a moisture or rain sensor for your outdoor sprinklers. With our monsoon season coming, this is the perfect time. Your drip system will not water when it senses rain, saving you money.
And one more thing, remember to set your watering times in the early morning when it’s cooler to reduce evaporation.
Speaking of throwing money down the toilet.
A few months ago I put a plastic bottle in my toilet tanks. My second water bill just came and it was lower than ever before. Ironically at a time when it usually goes up due to the outdoor plant needs. This is a no brainer.
Here’s how: Fill a one liter, plastic bottle with water and put it in your toilet tank. Remove the paper label first. If your toilets are flushed an average of four times a day, thats 1460 liters which is about 385 gallons of water saved for the year! And thats only four flushes a day.
Put a blue tablet in your toilet tank. If it seeps into the toilet bowl without flushing, you have a leak. Fixing it can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
Shower yourself with money by reducing your shower time. If everyone in your home reduced their showers by two minutes, you could save up to 150 gallons per month.
