The arc of history has been often indifferent and at times antagonistic towards the rights of the LGBT community. Often times, we were only allowed to express our true selves under guise of secrecy, in a metaphorical closet that became a prison. Thanks to the efforts of Stu Maddux and other filmmakers, we are finally beginning to crack open those closets and explore the complex and inspiring stories of the LGBT community as it struggles for acceptance.
We begin our exploration of these profound subjects with a special screening of “Reel in the Closet,” a thought-provoking documentary from Stu Maddux, immediately followed by a Q&A session with the award-winning producer and director. The festivities will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 6:30 pm at The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway. It’s a free event to celebrate LGBT History Month and we hope to see everyone there!

About The Movie
“Reel in the Closet”, delves into past LGBT lives with rare home movies of the people who experienced the stories. This is the first time many of the images and videos have been viewed, anywhere. These stories have been waiting in closets around America for the opportunity to be heard.
Described as a “crowd work in progress,” the project is continually updated and improved as more stories escape the closet. If you’d like a behind the scenes look at the documentary, please head over to the Reel in the Closet website.

An multi-award winning producer and director with international credits, Stu Maddux is dedicated to strengthening the LGBTcommunity by uniting its different generations. His films include: Gen Silent, the widely-used document about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender older people hiding their lives to survive discrimination, bullying, and abuse, and Bob and Jack’s 52-Year Adventure about an Army sergeant who began an affair with his commanding officer in 1952.
