I finally went to see BODIES: The Exhibition today. I am incredibly impressed. I thought I was going to be running for the door the first dead person I saw.
Now, I don’t want to give away too many details because you really should go see it yourself. Let me tell you, I don’t like biology or anatomy or really science of any kind. But it wasn’t graphic. I was expecting to see blood and guts everywhere- grody- but I felt like I was walking through an art gallery. With way cooler things than paintings.
I lied. I love painting too much to say that, but it was wonderful. I learned so much about my body and I know that sounds so dumb, but it was really interesting.
I’m not fond of museums in general, or guided tours, because I like to do everything my own way. I don’t want to listen to a monotonous tour guide who awkwardly leads a group around a small space. First thing when I walk in the doors, I got a little remote that you can activate if you want to hear information about whatever you are looking at.
Each exhibit has a number, so you can pick and choose what you want to learn about. It doesn’t feel like learning. I really don’t like putting it like that because I FINALLY finished the semester today (WOO-HOO!!), you just acquire knowledge.
Another concern of mine was that it was going to take three hours to get in and out of there. Youalways spend that time in museums… especially with nerds. But this was a very artistic display. There were maybe 5 rooms, each appointed with the body parts you are seeing. The rooms are spacious, the lighting is absolutely wonderful.
Honestly, I can’t even get over how well they displayed this artistically. Anyways, you can spend as much time as you would like in each room. The time flew, I stayed for an hour or so; but I’m sure that you could get through there in ten minutes or ten hours. And I’m sure going back! It’s up to you. Pretty cool, I would say.
Here’s the deal- Gay Tucson is giving out FREE tickets for the exhibition because it’s such a big deal. Info on the FREE tickets . It is incredibly gay-friendly, so take someone with you when you win them 🙂
In fact, we ran into some friends from LGBT organizations who work there. My next task is to take the girlfriend I don’t have, because it is just perfect for a date. Okay, I’m done rambling. Just do it!
