President Barack Obama ordered the administration to stop defending a 15-year-old U.S. law that defined marriage as between a man and a woman.
This is a major policy shift in favor of gay rights. The Department of Justice will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) limiting same-sex marriage.
