My longtime readers will know how passionate I am for caring for most endangered members of our community, the LGBT youth. It is up to us to create the type of safe and welcoming environment that doesn’t allow for the bullying, intimidation and violence that often greets our younger cohort. We understand this, and thankfully, so does the Tucson Police Department.

They are continually adding to the roll of wonderful businesses and organization that have applied and gone through the process of being deemed a Safe Place. We blogged about the Tucson Safe Place Initiative some time ago and even wrote about the many businesses getting involved in the Safe Place Initiative. Bank of America Joins the TPD Safe Place Initiative

This is Big News! We are very proud of TPD and especially the tireless work of Detectives Dana Davis-Richardson and Gilbert Martinez for getting such a huge organization behind the initiative. To celebrate, both the Detectives and other Tucson luminaries will be hosting a fantastic event on Thursday at the Bank of America Financial Center (3480 E Broadway, Tucson AZ 85716). The event kicks off at 10am so be sure to plan your schedule accordingly.

Bank of America is TPD Safe Place’s largest business partner to date. With such a vast footprint throughout Tucson, this partnership could provide sanctuary for significant portion of our population. They will start with 13 downtown locations as Tucson Safe Places, but plan to quickly expand with additional territories as soon as possible.

I have watched the Tucson Safe Place Initiative grow from it’s infancy and I couldn’t be prouder to see what it has become. With a behemoth organization like Bank of America, I can envision the program rolling out as far as the eye can see. In these turbulent times, this is the sign of progress that I have been looking for
