Caves, Lakes, Mt. Lemmon — Oh My!
Some people think Tucson is some podunk sweltering hot desert town, but of course the million people who live here know otherwise. One of the best, most magical and most relieving parts of Tucson Summers is monsoon season. Monsoon season occures during the summer for 3 months of the year and we get the most epic, incredible, amazing rain and thunderstorms followed by the prettiest rainbows ever (By the way, now is a great time to plant your summer garden, so the rain can get everything jump started).
Here is a photo of a double rainbow I took after a monsoon rain for my instagram account. @tonyraytucsonrealestate if you want to keep in touch there.
For the next couple of weeks I am going to blog about all of the great outdoor activites in the area that will keep you cool in the summer months for when the monsoon rains are not cooling you off. We’ll talk about local lakes for boating and fishing, close, cool mountain destinations, underground caves and more!
There is so much nature to explore because Tucson is completly surrounded by big mountians and there are tons of other cool places really closeby (Phoenix, San Diego, Vegas, Rocky Point, Mexico, Silver City, NM, Utah, Colorado…). Most people are stunned to find out how much there is to do and explore here and Tucsonans love to shock people with this fact.
Did you know there is a ski resort in Tucson!? It’s 30 minutes up Mount Lemmon and is called Mount Lemmon Ski Valley. Even sweeter, there is another very large, big mountain resort just 4 hours north near Greer, AZ called Sunrise Ski Resort and it is huge!! Pretty wild and shocking, huh? Pine trees and winter sports in the desert? It’s true, you can have the best of all worlds here: desert, lake and big mountain.
If nature attractions aren’t your thing, of course there are metropolitan attractions galore with full blast air conditioning to keep you cool during the summer: shopping, movies and museums and there are also waterparks and public pools that get the job done as well, but these upcoming blog posts will be about the lessor known, natural attractions in and near Tucson, starting with underground cave exploration!
