I have some exciting news to share! Last week while I was attending the Pride Parade and Pink Party, I was able to take some great photos of it all. Those pictures will be coming soon so look for them on the site.
I saw some old friends and faces that I haven’t seen for a while because I’m a prisoner of my school. Yay senior year of college. But I was thrilled to see and meet so many new faces.
I can remember when I was in my early twenties how I wished Tucson had more community to show up at these events. When I was 23 or 24 I walked in my first pride parade here in Tucson. Even though I felt a personal sense of accomplishment and pride doing it, I look back and realize that the parade was only 2 or 3 blocks on and near 4th.
People from businesses came out of the shops and home not to really support, but to see what the hell was going on. Some friends and family were on the sidelines though. So my 20 min parade was cute for a first try, I guess.
But last week, I saw how much the glbt Tucson community has grown!! Thank goodness for that too. I was so happy to see so many young people walking with their heads up high and proud. Couples that were lovingly embracing each other and supporting their community.
The amount of businesses that were showing their support was a much needed sign of change. I felt so proud to live in a town where local businesses have no problem giving back to the people that give them so much in return.
The parade also the first time I was a giant rainbow flag in it, which I thought was beautiful since it was being held by several community members. The AIDS Ribbon was quite breathtaking and also something new that I haven’t seen in our parades before either. It was definitely a sigh of relief to see how much we have changed and grown in ten yrs. It makes me excited to see what the future will bring.
If you are planning on attending PRIDE at Kino Sports Grounds, I look forward to seeing and meeting you there! Yes, I’ll have my camera(s) on hand so if you would like to be on the website, just let me know and I’ll take a picture of your family and friends! Looking forward to seeing you there!
