QUEER MOVIE SOCIETY TO BE CREATED
Their website proclaims ‘We’re Here…We’re Queer…We Like Movies’, and that is what Tucson’s new LGBT film society is all about. Promoting LGBT films and filmmakers by supporting and promoting a broad array of cultural representations and artistic expression in film, video and other media arts.
The Queer Movie Society hopes to have a few screenings of worthwhile films every month, the first one happening at the end of January. Society president Joe Sprague looks forward to holding a small film festival in the fall of 2011, with a larger one in early 2012.
He expects to be able to bring in a good variety of LGBT entertainment for this event. The success of Tucson’s Queer Movie Society hinges on the support of the local LGBT community, and interested parties are encouraged to visit the website www.queermoviesociety.org and take a small survey.
This survey is intended to gauge the movie-watching habits of the general community. There are also many ways to help throughout this process, by volunteering during the festival, helping to screen movies, etc.
If you would like to help QMS in providing access to films by, for, and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and their families, and assist in creating a local forum for LGBT filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences, take a moment to visit their website.
