LGBT Pride Month has historically been a time of togetherness and celebration. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has dashed event plans worldwide (FU Coronavirus), moving most gatherings to a virtual space. Thanks to the new format, the worldwide LGBT Community and it’s allies are able to participate in municipal pride events from all over the country. That’s right, this year you will be able to celebrate your pride around the country from the comfort of your couch!
When are The June 2020 LGBT Pride Events?
Here are 5 wonderful gay pride events you can attend virtually during the month of June:
New York Pride
One of my favorite actors, Dan Levy of Schitt’s Creek, grand marshalls the star-studded New York Pride 2020. Probably the largest gay pride event in the world, this year’s iteration will feature performances by Janelle Monae and Billy Porter, along with much more! Tune in on June 28th at 3pm to watch the celebration on ABC Live!
San Francisco Pride
While also participating in Global Pride 2020 (see below), San Francisco is hosting its own online pride celebration on it’s website SFPride.org . The 24-hour online event kicks of on Saturday, June 27th and includes lots of pre-recorded performances and guest presenters.
LA Pride 50th Anniversary Celebration
LA Pride will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Celebration that is grand marshaled by co-founder and gay rights icon Rev. Troy Perry. This special will broadcast live on ABC at 7:30pm on June 13th (this Saturday).
Chicago Pride
With the official Pride Parade postponed until early September, Chicago Pride Fest will begin at 5pm on June 20. The entire event series will be hosted on Twitch, so fire up your favorite streaming device and search for “Chicago Pride Fest”!
Global Pride 2020
I know that I spoke about events occuring in this country, but Global Pride 2020 is too large to overlook in this article. A collection of more than 350 Pride organizations around the world have joined efforts to host a Pride Spectacular without equal. Featuring performances by Olivia Newton John (I’m freaking out already!) and others along with world leaders, this will be the largest collection of gay voices in history! Visit the Global Pride 2020 website to learn when and where to catch this once-in-a-lifetime event!
