Gay Pride is a wonderful time to take a step back and reflect on how our lives have changed since Stonewall 50 years ago. Our incredible community has obtained rights that previous generations would never imagine, and we still have so much more progress to make! Thankfully, Men’s Social Network has a fantastic Gay Pride Flickathon 2019 to keep us on the path to equality!

When and Where is The Gay Pride Flickathon 2019?

The Gay Pride Flickathon will be held in the Ward 3 Council Office Conference Room on 1510 E Grant. If you haven’t been, it’s a wonderfully cozy space that is perfect for enjoying a few great movies. The films will begin at 1pm sharp, so be there early to grab some refreshments and a great seat!

What Can I Expect at the Gay Pride Flickathon 2019?

You can expect 4 fantastic feature films and documentaries, totally free of charge, to entertain you and your friends. You can also expect a fun and eclectic community to laugh and cry and share the experience with.

The schedule:

1 – 2:30pmOUT AND PROUD IN CHICAGO” ( NR ) – One city, one community, one human family. Profiling the history of Chicago’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community from the 19th century to modern day. Gay rights are civil rights – watch history unfold.

2:45 – 4:40pmDALLAS BUYERS CLUB” ( R ) – Matthew McConaughey gives the performance of his career in this uplifting and powerful film inspired by true events. Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof (McConaughey) sees his free wheeling life overturned when he’s diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. Determined to survive, Woodroof decides to take matters in his own hands by means both legal and illegal. After finding an unlikely ally in Rayon (Jared Leto)m he establishes a hugely successful “buyers’ club” and acceptance that inspires in ways no one could have imagined Co-starring Jennifer Garner.

4:50 – 6:10pmAKRON” ( NR ) A sensitive and unique film that puts a progressive, Midwestern spin on a classic family drama. Benny and Christopher, college freshmen, meet playing football and begin a relationship. They fall in love supported by their family and friends. As their love for each other grows, a past tragic event involving their mothers comes to light. This revelation tests their own love and Benny’s close-knit family.

6:20 – 8:00pmCODEBREAKER” ( NR ) The story of Alan Turing, he changed the world, but the world rejected him. CODEBREAKER tells the remarkable and tragic story of one of the 20th Century’s most important people. Alan Turing’s success breaking the German naval Enigma Code helped win WWII. And as the father of computer science and artificial intelligence, he laid the foundation for our modern world. This maverick British genius was one of the most important scientists ever, yet few people have heard his name, know his story, or understand his legacy. Instead of receiving accolades, Turing faced terrible persecution. In 1962, the British Government forced him to undergo chemical castration as punishment for his homosexuality. In despair, Turing committed suicide. He was only 41 years old.
