Full Disclosure – I met with Pete Buttigieg’s AZ team during the heat of the Democratic Nomination process in 2019. I’m not one to talk politics, but I thought he had the experience and temperament to be a great President. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in receiving the nomination, but thankfully he was an outspoken champion for Joe Biden. Now in power, Mayor Pete seeks to be Confirmed to President Biden’s Cabinet as the Transportation Secretary on Tuesday, February 2, 2021!
Mayor Pete as Transportation Secretary
I, of course, am a full-throated supporter of Mayor Pete and his nomination. His experience managing municipalities will give him a wonderful insight into the complexities of mass transit in our country. He has also pledged to respond to the climate crisis that rapidly envelopes our world.
Additionally, Mayor Pete has promised to enable travel systems in both urban and rural areas. This has been a notable blind spot for the previous administration. Our transportation system is the veins and arteries of our national body. Pete Buttigieg plans to use “transformative infrastructure to create jobs and strengthen our economic competitiveness.”
Prominent LGBTQ Members in President Biden’s Administration
President Biden has made it a hallmark of his administration that they better represent the diversity found in America. Beyond the historic nomination of Mayor Pete, President Biden has tapped Rachel Levine, an openly transgender physician, to the assistant secretary of health.
He also placed Carlos Elizondo, an openly gay veteran, as the administrations social secretary and Karine Jean-Pierra, a lesbian Haitian immigrant, as the deputy White House press secretary.
There are too many other openly LGBTQ members of President Biden’s Administration to write about in this short post, but expect to hear all about their awesome initiatives by staying tuned to GayTucson.com!
Have a fun day,
Tony Ray ?
