With vaccinations flying into arms coast-to-coast and the end of social distancing on the horizon (for small groups of vaccinated people), we felt this would be the perfect time to add another entry to our Social Distancing Film, TV, and Book Series! This time, we’ll be looking at John Birdsall’s new novel, The Man Who Ate Too Much, and previewing an exciting event with the author and a star from the Food Network!

Who Is The Man Who Ate Too Much?

James Beard (1903 – 1985) is a cultural icon, having shared his love of cooking and cuisine with an adoring country. He was also a gay man in an America that hated and persecuted people like him. This book fleshes out the inherent conflict in his public/private persona and the clash pitting the universally acceptable pleasure and comfort provided by food against the vilified lifestyle he was forced to only pursue in dark corners.

Who Is John Birdsall?

John Birdsall is a fantastically talented writer. He really found his stroke in 2014 when he wrote a series of essays around the concept, “America, Your Food Is So Gay“. He has a fascinating story and reason for his passion! I would rather let him tell it in his own words.

That’s why I am inviting you to a Q&A with the Author on May 5th at 10am! Join John Birdsall as he is interviewed by Food Network star host Ted Allen. There will be a fast paced presentation followed by 15 minutes (maybe more) of the author answering your questions. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn even more about the fascinating life of James Beard. The whole thing is online, so you don’t even have to wear pants!

Have a fun day,
