6 Decades of Fabulous – Cher is the Gift that Keeps on Giving

She’s been with us ever since she crooned the iconic hook, “I Got You Babe”. While that song is for Sonny Bono, I like to think she is also talking to the LGBT community. Given her long record of advocacy and full-throated support of Chaz Bono, it’s not a stretch to think that “She Got Us”. Now, she is putting her money where her mouth is. She is now hosting fundraisers for Joe Biden as we try to put decency back into leadership. Keep reading to learn more about Cher’s advocacy and all she has done for our community!

Cher – The Advocate Behind the Persona

The term “Gay Icon” gets thrown about with abandon these days. I will always have Judy Garland in my heart as the quintessential gay icon. But, I cannot deny Cher’s credentials as one of the greatest gay icons of all time.

The Mamma Mia! 2: Here We Go Again star is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. Her advocacy work truly began to shine with the coming out and eventual transition of her son, Chaz Bono. This is when I began to notice the strength of her convictions as she lovingly supported Chaz as he became recognized for the person he always was.

I also have to comment on Cher’s captivating sense of fashion, now referred to as the Bob Mackie style. This has become the preferred style for glamorous cross-dressing, complete with intricate headdresses and wild feathered outfits. If you ask me, her extravagant fashion sense is as inspirational as her music!
