The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) is pleased to be able to host the 2^nd Annual Out Brunch as a way to bring together the community to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride and to honor leaders who are doing exceptional work for the LGBTQ+ community in Southern Arizona. This engaging community event provides a time to reflect on the great steps that have been taken not only by SAAF, but by the community at large, to build and support the LGBTQ+ community. Out Brunch raises awareness and funds to support the LGBTQ+ initiatives, programs, and services of the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation.

From LGBTQ+ specific programs and advocacy efforts to the very first rainbow crosswalks in the state of Arizona, SAAF is proud to be at the forefront of LGBTQ+ initiatives in Southern Arizona. SAAF acts as a fiscal agent for both Southern Arizona Senior Pride and Camp Born This Way, serves as a voice for LGBTQ+ people, and collaborates with community partners to best serve Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ population.

At SAAF’s new Thornhill Lopez Center on 4^th, a safe place for LGBTQ+ and allied youth, youth programming and services include:

• HIV and STI prevention
• Substance abuse prevention
• Suicide prevention
• Sexual violence prevention
• Socialization opportunities
• Food, clothing, and housing assistance
• Arts expression
• Sex positive education
• And more.

The Out Brunch Community Awards were a mainstay of the annual Wingspan Gala dinner, and SAAF has continued this tradition as a part of Out Brunch. Each of the awards honors a specific facet of the amazing work being done in Southern Arizona:

• The Steve Hall Award is given to an individual who makes outstanding volunteer contributions to further the mission of promoting freedom, equality, safety and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people in Southern Arizona.
• The Godat Award was inaugurated in 1998 to recognize extraordinary long-term contributions by an individual to Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community.
• The Jean Baker Community Ally Award honors a straight ally who has made significant contributions to advance the freedom, equality, safety, and well-being of LGBTQ+ people in Southern Arizona.

Out Brunch 2017 honored the following individuals: Laura Alexander (Dr. Jean Baker Community Ally), Miki Odawa (Godat), and Dea Brasgalla (Steve Hall).
