Congratulations Lavina Tomer for being one of this year’s Faces of Tucson! Lavina is a 72 years young second-generation Lebanese-American who has been helping Tucson’s LGBTQ+ community since 1973. When talking to Faces of Tucson she had this to say:
“Being a part of an effort to improve my life and the lives of my community is rewarding, satisfying, discouraging, and infuriating. I am resilient and at the same time brittle. Hopeful and despairing. Exhausted and determined to leave a legacy.”
Here at GayTucson.com we absolutely understand and empathize with that sentiment. And we applaud her for her dedicated efforts in our community. Lavina is also the head and Executive Director of Senior Pride. The work that she does with SASP is invaluable. Seniors and the elderly are often forgot or swept under the rug as young, fresh, and fabulous queers start their rise. The wisdom of those who came before should not be taken for granted.
The Diversity Statement by Senior Pride is exceptionally accepting. A statement that may seem contrary considering the meme-level humor about seniors sticking to their old ways and being curmudgeonly.

We can’t think of anyone we’d rather have at the wheel of Southern Arizona Senior Pride than Lavina Tomer. It comes as no shock or surprise that her name came up to represent one of the Faces of Tucson. Congratulations Lavina Tomer, we cheer for you and your continued success!
