Southern Arizona Senior Pride has earned national recognition for the care, connection and advocacy it brings to LGBTQI+ older adults across Southern Arizona. SAGE has named the Tucson nonprofit the inaugural recipient of the 2026 SAGECollab Partner of the Year Award, celebrating work that helps people age with dignity, belonging and pride.
A National SAGECollab Honor Rooted in Partnership
The award recognizes SAGECollab partners that demonstrate collaboration, mentorship and a deep commitment to advancing equity for LGBTQ+ older adults. It is presented in memory of Reynaldo Mireles Jr., a dedicated advocate and coalition builder who helped pioneer SAGECollab.
The SAGECollab network connects local organizations across the country, helping them share knowledge, strengthen programs and expand access to affirming services.
Two Decades of LGBTQI+ Senior Support in Tucson
Southern Arizona Senior Pride began in 2004 as part of Wingspan, Tucson’s former LGBTQ community center. When Wingspan closed in 2014, community volunteers sustained the work. Senior Pride became an independent nonprofit in 2020 and is now supported by dedicated staff and more than 80 volunteers.
The organization celebrates, supports and unites LGBTQI+ adults age 55 and older and their younger allies. Its programs address practical needs while creating opportunities for friendship, learning and community participation.
The Community Cares Program provides transportation, home support, friendly visits and calls, and caregiver relief. It delivered more than 3,300 services in 2025 alone. Senior Pride also offers grief and loss groups, trans elder support, advance medical care planning, social and cultural activities, provider training and advocacy.
