Matthew Taylor for Sunnyside

Matthew is 19 years old and a Tucson native. He currently studies political science and law at Pima Community College. A few years back, Matthew had fallen into the foster care system at 16, and dropped out of high school as a result. He really lost sight of his goals and almost gave up entirely. However it was in that time of his life in which he found his calling, public service.

Today, he’s a first generation college student, serves as the youngest board member for “Tucson Pride”, and is running for a seat on the Sunnyside School Board.

Matthew is currently the youngest 2020 political candidate in the state of Arizona, not to mention queer.

“I go around the different Sunnyside schools, telling my story to these bright, young people in hope that they take something valuable away from it. It’s an example of how no matter the circumstances, achievement is still possible.”

If elected next year, Matthew will be the youngest person ever to serve on the Sunnyside School Board, and possibly the youngest openly gay man elected to office in our state.

“I want to break barriers, and I want to keep them down. Young, queer people can and will make a difference in this world.”
