College is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself. It is also the best investment a community can make in young minds. Luckily, our amazing little community is coming together to help LGBTQ students paying for college. That’s right, here is your chance to to apply for a PFLAG Tucson/Alliance Fund Scholarship! How Can You Get Help Paying For College
PFLAG Tucson/Alliance Fund anticipates awarding several $1,000 joint scholarships to LGBTQ+ persons or an active straight ally to attend an institution of higher education. You qualify if you are:
- A graduating high school senior,
- Undergraduate student, or
- Graduate student,
Of course, you also have to be a resident of the Tucson Metropolitan area or Pima County, attending any college or university.
This amazing scholarship is supported in part by funds from the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. These scholarships were founded in memory of Gene More, the wonderful past president of PFLAG Tucson, Mark and Art Woodland, and Norman “Mick” Meader, our invaluable past PFLAG secretary.
The Particulars
The application deadline is March 31, 2020. The requirements for a PFLAG/Alliance Fund Scholarship are:
- Must be a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender person, or an active straight ally;
- Must be accepted to an institution of higher education for the period for which the scholarship is requested.
There is an application packet that you will need to complete along with a personal essay and two letters of recommendation to speak to your character.
