On This Beautiful Friday in Tucson, I want to be thankful for all of the blessings in my life.
One thing that has been on my mind was a recent event which caused me to reflect on my own journey of coming out and understanding who I was in my youth.
When I first came out, gays got beat up in school and the teachers thought it was OK. There were no thoughts about preventing bullying and gay bars were hidden in the back alleys and places where nobody would see you go inside.
Recently, I was with a group of friends when a group of 5 young guys came into the popular restaurant to celebrate what was obviously a birthday for one of their buddies. The Birthday boy carried a huge mylar balloon, his neck surrounded by a feather boa and had on a festive party hat that read, FABULOUS. And I thought, It really is.
