Families For Private Adoption

Thinking about adopting? Families for Private Adoption (ffpa.org) is a not for profit agency that can help your family through the adoption process. The FPA supports and educates parents who are looking to grow their family with the aid of private adoption. Additionally, the FPA works around the many religious-based adoption agencies to specifically help LGBT families with adopting.

To meet their mission, Families for Private Adoption offers two training classes each year. They teach parents looking to adopt how to get through all the red tape and adopt a beautiful, worthwhile child. The FPA holds adoption training workshops in Phoenix, AZ. They will hold more workshops as their need for training increases. Please, click here for Adoption Training Workshops near you!

Why Trust Families for Private Adoption?

Families for Private Adoption has been serving the LGBTQ community since its inception, in 1984. In fact, it is the oldest non-profit organization in private adoption. Until 2015, all workshops were held in the Washington D.C. area. However, we recently expanded our reach and are now offering this workshop in Phoenix, Arizona.

We have recruited the state’s top-notch attorneys (all AAAA) and adoption professionals that are all encouraging and accepting of LGBTQ adoption. The aim of the workshop is to educate prospective adoptive parents on how to independently adopt in the state of Arizona. This includes presentations from attorneys, social workers, birth mothers, and adoptive parents. Prospective adoptive parents leave this workshop equipped to adopt, from start-to-finish. Topics include Arizona adoption law, ICPC, birth mom search strategies, home study requirements, communication with birth parents, and funding.

The unique nature of FPA is that we are all volunteers. No one gets paid-most of us are adoptive parents that simply wish to pay it forward. Our organization not only provides bi-annual workshops, but also “buddy” mentors for the adoption process and social events to encourage collaboration.

The FPA is making great friends as well! Currently, the FPA is working with Equality Arizona on Project Jigsaw. Project Jigsaw spreads the word about private adoption as a viable family building option for LGBT individuals and families.

I look forward to all the great things coming out of Families for Private Adoption in the near future.

Have a great day,

Tony Ray 🙂

Lets talk about lunch.

Go to Roma Imports and have some of the best Italian food in Tucson.

Roma Imports is an Italian food import store with a little restaurant in the back. Nothing fancy, but absolutely Italy-icious!

I like to eat lunch there and then take home some of the home made hot Italian sausage. They have one that is really hot.

They always have incredible antipasta’s, cheeses, desserts, pastas and just about anything Italian your heart may desire.

I don’t know the owner but I do like the people who work there. The reason I’m telling you about them is because I’m Italian and everyone should know good Italian food, gay or not.

Tell them Tony Ray sent you and have a great lunch.

& Gallery

Sad to say goodbye, & Gallery has officially closed. For incredible Tucson art, visit The Tucson Gallery on GayTucson! & Gallery is owned and overseen by East Sleep Work and is an art gallery unlike any other in Tucson. While many galleries here focus on Southwest fine art & Gallery takes an entirely different approach. Here you will find zines, sequential art, low brow art, anime, and so much more. They showcase local Arizona artists and give them a place to shine that’s off the beaten path.

A New Beginning

& Gallery Interior
& Gallery Interior
In 2019 the &G moved from its small space at Grand and Stone to 4th avenue, the hub of downtown Tucson. Since its grand reopening, the gallery has put on numerous exhibitions showcasing local talent and forward-thinking artists. Its mission is to not only lift up locals but offer them a safe space to showcase their art. Tucson itself is touted as a queer-inclusive city but it’s important to & Gallery to actually take action and do the work. While all are welcome only those with good intentions get to stay. Cynthia Naugle is the gallery manager, event coordinator, and social media maven. Through her connections in the community, she continues to put on exciting events and brings new opportunities to artists who formally only had an online audience.
“One of our big missions here is to amplify artists. We want to make sure we’re taking our artists to the next level. I love our group shows and we can do them all the time but if we’re not pushing you to be better, for each piece to be better… well we’ve just got to have that growth.” -Cynthia Naugle
Aside from regular group shows and exhibitions, this gallery offers tons of merchandise. From original artwork to prints and stickers there’s something for everyone at reasonable prices. Print and photography services are also available and if they can’t do it they will point you to the people who can.

Networking nights are something new &G is trying out. Each meetup will have a theme, such as musicians or digital artists but all are welcome to attend. Getting the right information and tools to artists is just as important as getting the art made. The gallery is building a beautiful artists community here in Tucson and everyone should drop in and check them out.

Inclusive Summer Adventures at Camp Quest Arizona 2026

Finding a summer program that aligns with secular values while providing a genuinely safe and celebratory environment for LGBTQIA plus and neurodivergent youth is a top priority for many Southern Arizona families. Camp Quest Arizona meets this need by offering a premier residential experience that replaces traditional dogma with scientific wonder and critical thinking.

Scheduled for June 21 through June 27, 2026, in the refreshing high country climate of Prescott, this week long program provides a vital escape from the summer heat and the social pressures many marginalized youth face in their daily lives.

A Sanctuary for Diverse Campers

What sets Camp Quest Arizona apart from standard summer programs is its proactive approach to inclusivity. While many camps claim to be friendly, this organization is built from the ground up to be affirming. This distinction is visible in the very structure of the camp experience.

Families and campers have the autonomy to choose between gender specific or gender neutral cabins. This ensures everyone feels safe and comfortable in their sleeping quarters. Furthermore, all restrooms at the camp are gender neutral, which helps remove a common point of anxiety for transgender and nonbinary participants.

The all volunteer staff is comprised of many LGBTQIA plus individuals and community allies. These mentors provide visible and positive role modeling for the next generation. Additionally, the camp is designed to be accessible for neurodivergent youth by recognizing that different brains process social and sensory input in unique ways.

Balancing Tradition with Critical Thinking

The daily schedule offers a perfect blend of summer camp classics and intellectual exploration. Campers participate in traditional outdoor favorites such as hiking, fishing, sports, and arts and crafts. However, these are balanced with signature activities that are unique to the Camp Quest mission.

Age appropriate philosophy sessions encourage kids to ask deep questions and explore ethical frameworks. Collaborative games and challenges are designed to teach the basics of the scientific method and logical reasoning. Throughout the week, the curriculum focuses on empathy and personal responsibility, teaching children that they can be compassionate and ethical without relying on religious doctrine.

Accessibility and Safety Standards

Camp Quest Arizona is committed to ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent a child from attending. Scholarships known as Camperships are readily available on a needs based basis. The organization also offers flexible payment plans to accommodate various household budgets. Furthermore, the camp is highly equipped to handle various dietary restrictions to ensure that every child is well nourished.

Safety remains the highest priority for the organizers. Every staff member undergoes a rigorous screening process. This includes comprehensive background checks and specialized safety training to ensure a secure environment for all participants between the ages of 8 and 17.

Why Arizona Parents Trust the Program

The impact of this environment is best expressed by the families who return year after year. Parents often report that their children arrive home transformed. One testimonial highlighted how kids who were once resistant to sleep away camps because of mandatory prayer or rigid scheduling returned home full of excitement. These campers were seen waving goodbye to new friends and eagerly sharing the projects they had created during the week. It is this sense of belonging that defines the Camp Quest experience.

Register for the 2026 Season

If you are ready to register a camper or are interested in the rewarding experience of volunteering as a staff member, you can find more information at the official website.

Join a community where logic, science, and radical inclusion take center stage this summer.

Soul Space

Soul Space is built on this core value: healing should be human, safe, and deeply relational. This is more than a wellness center, this is a place where souls can come to release what you’re holding, be truly seen, and reconnect with yourself in an authentic way.

Our space brings together therapy, body-based care, and holistic services under one roof. Healing doesn’t happen in pieces, it happens when the whole person is supported. Whether you are coming in for counseling, bodywork, or something else, our intention is the same: to create an environment where you don’t have to perform, or translate your experience to be understood.

Our care includes a range of offerings designed to bring a whole-body approach to healing. We provide individual therapy for ages 4+ as well as specialized support for trauma, relationships, families, identity exploration, and life transitions. Alongside mental health services, we also offer holistic skincare, acupuncture, medical massage, psychiatry, naturopathy, nutrition, yoga, and more. Whether you are seeking deeper emotional work or simply a moment to slow down and care for yourself, our services are designed to feel intentional, grounding, and genuinely supportive.

Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is woven into the foundation of how we practice. Every therapist at Soul Space is committed to providing affirming, respectful, and culturally sensitive care. For many, the search for a provider that “gets it” can be a long and exhausting journey. That’s why we’re intentional about creating this space where identity is welcomed and honored.

As a local, woman-owned business, our loyalty to Tucson runs deep. This city holds a beautiful sense of diversity and resilience. Tucson has a way of inviting people to show up as they are, and we want to reflect that same energy within our practice. Our work extends beyond our office through community events, collaborations, and ongoing efforts to make mental health and wellness more accessible and inclusive.

Antigone Books

Exterior of Antigone BooksAntigone Books was founded in 1973 as a predominantly lesbian-owned feminist bookstore. This was at a time when there were more than fifty independent bookstores in Tucson. In the decades since the number of indie bookstores in the city has dwindled. Still Antigone Books has remained a pillar of the local book-loving community, expanding our mission to be a community bookstore with feminist roots. Although ownership has changed hands a couple of times since we originally opened in the 70s, we’ve remained women-run from the start. The current owners and long-time Antigone Books employees Kate, Melissa, and Morgan took over in 2018. They have expanded the store’s selection of books, gifts, and cards while remaining true to the store’s original focus on the recently-published boundary-pushing literature.

The Store

We keep a circulating stock of Pride supplies on hand throughout the year. From flags representing all identities across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum to dog- and cat-themed rainbow stickers. We also maintain a thriving queer literature section (see photos!), where we keep classic gay, trans, lesbian, and ace titles in stock. Readers can find everything on our shelves from LGBTQIA+ children’s books and YA fiction to queer graphic novels and LGBTQIA+ non-fiction. We also get regular issues of Sinister Wisdom and RFD as well as the latest lesbian romances from Bella and Bold Stroke Books. Whatever we don’t have in stock we’re happy to order for our customers at no extra charge! You can place orders in our store, over the phone, or online and we can get most titles in within a week.

Though our events program is on hold indefinitely due to COVID-19, pre-pandemic we were home to seven local book clubs and we featured regular book signings, author readings, and we had just begun to host Drag Queen Story Hours. We look forward to supporting our community with these and more exciting options in the near future; keep an eye on our website for updates! We also run a local authors consignment program for Tucson writers whose books are self-published or not available through major book distributors. We’re always looking for new voices, so definitely reach out if you’re interested after checking out the “Consignment” page on our website. In addition, we proudly carry local free periodicals of the Tucson queer community such as the 55+ LGBT newsletter Senior Forum and the Tucson Pride guide. Whether you’re new to town or a regular search for that perfect book, we’re excited to welcome you!

REVIEW:

“LOVE Antigone Books! This is generally my first stop if I’m looking for gifts or a physical book. Love their selection of adult coloring books, blank journals, cookbooks, and local authors. Their feminist and LGBTQ+ selection is also pretty impressive. And, they host a few book discussion groups. The staff is always friendly, and I like the sense of community.”
