Arte Bellas Colorful Backstory
Artist, Air Force veteran, LGBTQ advocate, and cannabis activist Jen Christiansen opened the 4th Avenue location in April 2021. Jen saw an opportunity to fuse some of her favorite worlds together when Prop 207 passed. Further nudging her mission to go mainstream with her ‘Puff and Paint’ concept. Jen shakes her fist at the cannabis stigma. She opens her doors to all 21+ customers with the liberating reminder that “Moms smoke weed, too!”

I am a “returner.” Born and raised in New York City, I moved to Tucson in the early 90s. I left to be closer to the family for support after a divorce. When I lived here, I owned a communications firm, Veritas Communications, and was very involved in the small business community. 19 years later, I am back (with my wife) and delighted to be home! Tucson is a city that feels like a personal treasure that only a few can appreciate. Every day I am more inspired by the miracle of this land.

Have you ever felt seen, valued, or important? Here at Creatively Queer Press, we want everyone to experience that feeling through the media they consume. We’ve seen in popular media that many people in the LGBTQ+ or BIPOC communities lack representation with accuracy or empathy if represented at all.
Our mission as a publishing company is to change that. We look to media for versions of ourselves and for visions of who we could be. If we don’t see ourselves represented then our dreams can feel limited, or at worst, discouraged. Diversity is something we believe should be visible and celebrated.
The Media
One of our first publications does that for the queer Latinx community: Cuentos. This bilingual Latinx mythology art anthology came to fruition by our Creatively Queer Press team. With the help of two dozen queer Latinx artists and writers. Every entry is a painting or illustration about a myth, legend, or creature from folklore. The artworks are accompanied by either fiction or non-fiction writing about the subject in both Spanish and English.
Through Cuentos our founder Luis Silva discovered our first editor for the CQP team: A. Dante Bravo. Originally a contributing artist and writer, Dante took on the task of editing the book layout and running the Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the print books of Cuentos. To help finish Cuentos, our second editor Joelle Blot was also invited to join us on the book’s publishing journey. Together our team of three queer creators works to share our books all across the town of Tucson, AZ, and far beyond. By collaborating with queer and POC creatives from all over the world, Creatively Queer Press strives to create and publish accessible entertainment for fans of all genres of comic books, art anthologies, gaming books, and so much more.
We are also working towards building an animation team to help us create groundbreaking animated films that serve our mission of inclusive representation. We invite everyone who values diversity to discover a new favorite on our website at www.creativelyqueerpress.com
Barrio Books is the only bilingual woman-owned bookstore in Tucson, AZ. We specialize in carrying literature from Latinx authors as well as other BIPOC authors. We dedicate ourselves to serving the Tucson community by providing a space where our customers can find representation in the books they read. Barrio Books began as a pop-up vendor, going to different events throughout Tucson and the surrounding areas. In January, we were fortunate to have a partnership with Hotel McCoy who provided our first Brick and Mortar location rent-free. We are currently working on our bookmobile in order to have an easier and more efficient way of getting more literature into our neighborhoods.
Representation Matters
Selfie of Syrena at Barrio Books
I am a native Tucsonan and a graduate of the University of Arizona. Throughout the years, I have been involved in organizations throughout the community that focuses on Social Justice and Cultural enrichment.
Tucson is such a diverse city and so incredibly supportive. We saw that first opening at our Brick and Mortar location! There were so many people that came in rooting for Barrio Books to succeed. And so many others that were eager to learn and devour the literature that we sell. Even today, there are still so many people so excited to come in and take in the unique vibes of Barrio Books.
Representation for Latinx peoples is incredibly important in all mediums, especially literature. Barrio Books is a way to get books out to people in the community who have no idea where they can find books that reflect them and their unique journey through life. This is especially important for young readers. Books that have characters who look like them, eat the same foods, or go through the same obstacles can really lure them into wanting more books and in turn, create lifelong readers!
“Quickly has become one of my favorite bookstores in town. Syrena has been extremely kind and helpful when it comes to helping me find rare Latinx-focused books, and I am very grateful for all the wonderful finds!” -Luis Silva

Spinal Flow by Isha is a heart-led healing practice that supports your nervous system through gentle touch, deep listening, and real respect for your body’s natural wisdom. If you’re tired of pushing through stress, pain, burnout, or emotional overload, this is a softer, more compassionate way to come back to yourself.
Based in Tucson, Spinal Flow by Isha proudly welcomes LGBTQ+ folks and allies. This is an affirming space where you don’t have to explain your identity, “tone it down,” or make yourself easier to accept. You get to show up as you are—and your body, boundaries, and lived experience are honored.
What Is Spinal Flow?
Spinal Flow is a gentle, non-force healing modality that works with the spine and nervous system. It’s designed to help the body release stored tension, stress, and survival patterns that can build up over time.
A lot of us carry stress not just in our minds, but in our bodies—especially if we’ve lived through trauma, chronic stress, long-term anxiety, or years of feeling unsafe or unseen. This work meets you where you are, without judgment and without pressure.
What to Expect in a Spinal Flow Session
Sessions involve light touch at specific access points along the spine and sacrum. The goal is to help your nervous system shift out of fight-or-flight and into a more regulated, grounded state.
When your nervous system feels safe, your body can begin to reorganize and settle naturally. People often leave sessions feeling calmer, more present, and emotionally lighter. Some clients also notice physical relief, better sleep, clearer emotions, or a deeper sense of inner safety.
Trauma-Aware, Consent-Based Nervous System Support
Isha—the practitioner behind Spinal Flow by Isha—offers an approach that’s trauma-aware, consent-based, and never rushed. Healing here shouldn’t feel invasive, conditional, or like you need to “perform” wellness.
This work isn’t about fixing you. It’s about creating the conditions where your body can remember how to heal and regulate itself.
Who Spinal Flow Can Help
Spinal Flow by Isha is a great fit if you’re navigating:
Anxiety or ongoing stress
Burnout or emotional exhaustion
Chronic tension or overwhelm
Life transitions, grief, or big changes
A desire to feel safer and more at home in your body
You don’t need to be flexible, spiritual, or “already healed” to benefit. You only need to show up.
A Tucson Healing Practice Rooted in Community
Tucson’s LGBTQ+ community thrives on authenticity, resilience, and chosen family—and Spinal Flow by Isha reflects those same values. If you’re looking for gentle nervous system support in Tucson, this is an invitation to slow down, soften, and reconnect in a way that feels safe and empowering.
Reviews:
Client feedback: feeling lighter, more relaxed, and supported after a session.
I had an amazing experience with Spinal Flow by Isha. After just one session, my chronic back pain noticeably decreased, which honestly surprised me. Isha is incredibly professional and clearly knows what she’s doing. From the moment I walked in, she made me feel comfortable with her warm, welcoming presence. She took the time to explain the process and made sure I felt at ease the entire session. I left feeling lighter, more relaxed, and hopeful. I highly recommend her to anyone dealing with ongoing back pain or simply looking for genuine, thoughtful care. – Marissa Love ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

FAQs
What is Spinal Flow?
Spinal Flow is a gentle, non-force healing modality that works with the spine and nervous system. It’s designed to support the body in releasing stored tension, stress, and “survival mode” patterns so you can feel more regulated and at ease.
How does Spinal Flow support the nervous system?
Spinal Flow uses light touch at specific access points along the spine and sacrum. This helps the nervous system shift out of fight-or-flight and into a calmer, more regulated state—where the body can rest, reset, and restore balance naturally.
What happens during a Spinal Flow session?
Sessions involve gentle, intentional touch along the spine and sacrum. There’s no forceful manipulation. The focus is on helping your body feel safe enough to unwind stress and tension at its own pace.
Is Spinal Flow chiropractic care or a massage?
No. Spinal Flow is not chiropractic adjustment and it isn’t massage therapy. It’s a light-touch modality focused on nervous system regulation and the body’s natural ability to reorganize and release stored stress.
What can Spinal Flow help with?
People often seek Spinal Flow support for:
Anxiety and chronic stress
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
Feeling overwhelmed or stuck in survival mode
Life transitions, grief, or big emotional seasons
Chronic tension and a desire to feel more grounded
What results do people commonly report?
Many clients report feeling calmer, more grounded, emotionally lighter, and more connected to their bodies after sessions. Some people also notice physical relief, improved sleep, emotional clarity, and a greater sense of internal safety. (Everyone’s experience is different.)
Is Spinal Flow trauma-informed?
Yes. Spinal Flow by Isha is trauma-aware and consent-based, with a strong focus on creating a safe, respectful environment. The work is never rushed or invasive, and your boundaries are honored throughout.
Is Spinal Flow LGBTQ+ affirming?
Absolutely. Spinal Flow by Isha proudly serves Tucson’s LGBTQ+ community and allies. This is an affirming space where you don’t need to explain your identity or soften yourself to be accepted—your lived experience is respected fully.
Do I need to be spiritual (or “into energy work”) to try this?
Nope. You don’t have to be spiritual, flexible, or familiar with any healing modalities. Spinal Flow is body-centered and meets you where you are. You can come in skeptical, curious, exhausted, or hopeful—it’s all welcome.
Who is this practice best for?
This work is especially supportive for people who feel like they’ve been “pushing through” for a long time—whether that’s stress, pain, burnout, or emotional overwhelm—and want a gentler approach that prioritizes safety, consent, and nervous system care.
Is this about “fixing” me?
Not at all. The intention is not to fix you. Spinal Flow by Isha focuses on creating the right conditions for your body to regulate, release, and reconnect—so healing can happen in a way that feels safe and empowering.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Wear whatever helps you feel comfortable and relaxed. Most people choose soft, easy-to-move-in clothing.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Some people feel a noticeable shift after one session, while others prefer ongoing support—especially if they’re navigating long-term stress, burnout, or big life changes. Your needs and pace are respected.
What if I’m nervous or don’t know what to expect?
That’s completely normal. You’re welcome to show up exactly as you are. The approach is gentle and consent-based, and you can ask questions or share boundaries at any point.
Can Spinal Flow replace therapy or medical care?
Spinal Flow can be a supportive complement to therapy or medical care, but it isn’t a substitute for professional medical or mental health treatment. If you’re dealing with severe symptoms or a medical concern, it’s always best to consult a licensed provider.
